Ewood update: Nelsen back as Kiwi captain

By: Dan Clough | September 12th, 2007

player-image-36355.jpg- Ryan Nelsen has agreed to return to international duty for New Zealand after being named as captain.

Having not played since 2004, the Rovers skipper has had to return following Danny Hay’s retirement.

- Steven Reid’s return to fitness could provide Sparky with a huge boost.

The Republic midfielder is very close to getting a first team recall after being injured for just about his entire Rovers career!

- Robbie Savage’s feud with Wales manager John Toshack goes on.

Following Wales 5-1 thrashing to Slovakia Savage has stated that Tochack should be replaced by Chris Coleman as the side has ‘gone backwards’ since the former Real Madrid boss took over.

- Benni McCarthy reckons Rovers are going to challenge for honours this season.

Whether it be in domestic or European competition the South Africa striker believes Rovers have the pedigree to win a trophy his season.

He also believes his partnership with Santa could make the one of the most feared strike-forces in the country.
