For those who don’t know why I go on about Burnley
By: Dan Clough | November 10th, 2007
Blackburn and Burnley have been bitter rivals for many a year.
It is a rivalry that not many of the less educated football fans know about.
It isn’t of the same ferocious nature as that of Celtic and Rangers by any means, but the hatred runs deep.
In the last few years it has become something of a novelty for Rovers to play against Burnley, the last time was in the FA Cup back in 2005. It wasn’t a good game, we drew 0-0 at Turf Moor and brought them back to Ewood where we won 2-1.
Before then we had only met twice in 22 years. Those being the league games of our First Division (now Championship) promotion season in 2000/01. We won 2-0 at Turf Moor and 5-0 at Ewood.
There was trouble at both games that season, the most amusing being after the away game in which Burnley fans, clever bunch that they are, went into Burnley town centre and caused havoc, much to the amusement of Rovers!
It isn’t the most high profile local rivalry by any means, but when they come around it’s always fun!
PS - We call them Dingles, on account of their inbreeding tendancies. They call us bastards, cos they’re original!
