Blackburn 0-0 Reading

Not a nice advert for Premier League football as Rovers failed to overcome 10 man Reading. There isn’t much to say really, though Reading keeper RSC and Marcus Hahnemann had to make a few good saves. Perhaps the best news is that we kept a clean sheet (against an offensively dangerous side) in Ryan Nelsen’s return to the side – I’m pretty sure there’s a connection there. However this was definitely 2 points dropped and our chances of 5th are probably now dead in the water unless Pompey and Everton slip up big time. I can see Everton perhaps doing so without Tim Cahill but Pompey are on fire at the moment – perhaps our only hope is Defoe getting injured.
That being said Rovers need to concentrate on themselves. I’m perhaps one of Gamst’s biggest fans but he needs to get his act together before he’s dropped or sold, which would be sad since he has the potential to be a consistant star in the league (like he was last season). Otherwise we really need to become more clinical and consistant – pundits (when they rarely mention us) constantly talk about how we are doing so well but personally I see a team that could do a little bit better. It feels like the players all have top performances inside them but they’re not always producing them.
That being said I’d settle for 7th – with the league becoming a bit more competitive in the 5th-11th place area due to all the money flowing in, our distinct lack of funds does make our current position an achievement and something to brag about.
On a side note, it’s hard to laugh at Burnley these days – the teams never meet. So instead let’s laugh at Bolton. They’re going down…..
