Rovers 1 - 1 Arsenal
By: Dan Clough | August 19th, 2007
A game full of figures saw Rovers grab a good point at Ewood.
It was Friedel’s 250th match, our 8th game unbeaten in the league, David Dunn’s first goal for Rovers since his return, two blatant penalty appeals turned down, eight bookings and Alan Wiley’s eighth red card for a Rovers player!
Then, after the game, Arsene Wenger (prick) gave a trademark whinge about Rovers ‘over-physical’ style of play!
In an uncharacteristic ‘dodgy’ moment for Friedel he spilled Da Silva’s effort and Van Persie (hooray for my fantasy team) knocked it in from close range.
Rovers’ first penalty should have come right at the beginning of the second half when Robbie Savage was wrenched to the floor by Kolo Toure, but with Alan ’surely a Burnley fan’ Wiley in charge there was nothing doing. In the second half Chris Samba’s shot (which would have gone in) was superbly saved by Cesc Fabregas’ outstretched arm, again no penalty.
We were on top for the majority of the second half and finally got the goal we deserved when Dunny’s 25-yard effort somehow slipped through Jens Lehmann’s hands.
Alan Willy Wiley struck again with ten minutes to go by sending off the Admiral Nelsen for a second booking.
After the game Arsene Whinger, who had clearly been watching a different game said:
“I felt there was a desire for violence more than commitment in their challenges. We dealt well with the problem we had against a team that was over-physical. My team showed the correct attitude and we are frustrated because we should be going home with the three points.”
To which Mark Hughes replied:
“That attitude by Wenger surprises me, the worst challenge was by Van Persie on Stephen Warnock. It was very competitive and I thought we dominated the game. We were the better side. We showed great character and equipped ourselves well against a top side.”
Good lad Hughesy!

good work blackburn, you really over ran Arsenal’s midfield in the second half and completely shut down they’re possession passing game. Still needed an awful mistake to take a point but you looked good and quite useful.
