Rovers 2 - 3 Arsenal (aet): A Game of Four Halves
By: Dan Clough | December 19th, 2007
Shocking and embarressing, two words that describe the first half for Rovers. Two goals that could have been easily prevented had our defence been in the form they were in a couple of months ago.
Unfortunately that’s all in the past and we are currently defending like the French army.
Luckily, we’ve got two players called David Bentley and Roque Santa Cruz. A beautiful link up between Bentley and Derbyshire (yes, he was offside but you need a bit of luck) who played it across superbly for Santa Cruz to slot home. It was 2-1 and we had a glimmer of hope, but had to start playing much better!
The second half, unlike the first, made you feel proud to be a Rover. We were strong, solid, decisive, good on the ball, looked dangerous and the Arsenal kids looked overpowered. Another gem with a peach of a cross from Bentley’s free kick saw Santa head in his fifth goal in two games (how can we have lost both?!)
Cue pandemonium when Denilson was sent off, rightly so, his challenge on Dunn was dangerous. We now had a chance. We were favourites.
Extra time. They nick one, McCarthy misses a couple, we don’t take our chances, we are out of the cup.

Wow, thank you so much for posting that Vimeo clip of the game. What a crazy game to watch… Blackburn should have won that, but just got really unlucky I think.
