A Serious Takeover Bid? – Yes, please!
By: Jimmy | April 30th, 2008
“With a club like Rovers that has seen so many highs and lows since the beginnings of the EPL, stability for a few years is exactly what is needed.” David wrote that in his last entry and I think he has a great mindset in that thought, and that’s a thought that I know many BRFC fans share. While I don’t contest or disagree with the logic behind it, I can’t help my little heart wanting more.
Let us look at the facts, shall we? The Trustees haven’t invested their usual £3 million this year, not that they’re obliged to, I don’t believe, but clearly they’re not backing the club as fiscally as Uncle Jack probably would have liked. However, not to be a Debbie Downer, they have kept the Rovers one of, if not the best, run clubs in all of England; many teams now try to emulate the structure and set up we have here. The main point I’m trying to make here is this: while the Rovers will without a doubt be able to stay in the top flight for more than a few years, if we want to move onwards and upwards, we are going to need some kind of takeover in the form of an investor or consortium willing to back and give MH as well as the front office access to more funds to not only go out and find more players, but to keep the good ones we have.
The Trust knows what is best for the club and how to keep us afloat; the proof is in the fact that they have been doing a more then good enough job over the last several years. They will also, I feel, be able to thoroughly back check, interview and make sure that any serious candidate in the running to buy/take over BRFC will:
A. Financially be able to do so.
B. Have the club’s best interest at heart and have a detailed business plan on where they see themselves taking the club.
Things we without a doubt need to improve on is our global marketing, fixing the deal with the club shop, and being able to become a consistent face in Europe in order to attract more talent to our club. Mark Hughes won’t be able to pull diamonds out the rocks forever, nor will he be around forever to try. So whether the buyer be form the UK, the US, Asia, hell even Mars, I feel that I will be able to trust the decision of the Trust if they ever decide to sell the club. Hopefully that trust I have in the Trust as a fan and loyal supporter will not be betrayed by them or their choice in successor. As always, Up the Rovers!

How bout this…everyone on theoffside pitches in $10…and then…well we couldn’t buy a club or anything, but I bet we could have a really big kegger.

Someone needs to put a bug in George Soros’s ear. His deal to buy Roma looks like it has fallen through. He could buy and build the Rovers for less than the Roma deal. He’s big on promoting more American awareness of the rest of the world. What better way than building a “great power” football team and promoting it in the USA? You can’t help but getting drawn into the world following this sport.

CSD that kegger sounds like a lot of fun. And Mike, I’m not sure he’s in it to build up a club, rather then just take the glory from an already great side. If he is though, maybe you know a guy with a few good bed bugs to whisper to him.

I’ve got nothing against a takeover per se, but I would like to see someone with a lot of credibility - events at Man City have worried me. It’s probable that we will get takenover in the next few years, but it would be difficult to get someone really good.

It would be nice to see the Trustees put their hands in their pockets though… Sunday Times rich list has them at worth over 700 million quid! Isn’t that around 400 million more than Walkersteel was sold for? I think it is… Jack wanted them to invest more than they have done!
