Proper football returns to us this weekend around the world and, more importantly, at Ewood Park as the Blackburn Rovers take on the Wanderers of Wolverhampton in the fourth league game of the season.

I’ll be honest here; this is a must win game. After this game we have league games against Everton and Villa, with a league cup game v Notts Forrest thrown in between those games.

Then after Villa and the retrn of big Brad and Stephen Warnock, we have Le Arse, Chelski, The B@stards, and ManUre.

This is a must win game.

Hopefully we will have a lot of players to choose from. Emerton is close to making a comeback, and Dunn, Reidy and Grella all should have used these 7 days extra to get back into shape and fit. Here’s the team I would put out:

——————-Robbo———————
Jacobsen Samba Givet Chimbonda
Dioufy Dunn Nzonzi Pederson
Benni (if fit) Kalinic

Wolves have earned 4 points from their 4 games but should be ours for the taking. If we go out and play solid defensively (like we have been lately) and our strikers can get some shots on target, we should pull out the 3 points.

Any thoughts about the game? Your XI you would field? As always, let me know and UP THE ROVERS!

Saturday Aug 15th will be the day to mark on your calendars, that’s when things will kick off.

Legally I don’t think I am allowed to post the fixtures however, you can find them by clicking this link.

Seeing as I don’t want to get into trouble for posting them in more detail, let’s move into vague date chat.

Soooo, how’s everyone feeling about October 17th this year? Excited? Anxious? Angry? And what about March 27th 2010? Anyone have any thoughts?

I know you do, so comment below. Do it.

Oh Morten. Such a big heart. It’s great, and now I can’t wait for next season. With the Confederations Cup and WCQ’s, I was just really getting into the big summer of National Team football, and MGP comes out and gets me all riled up in this article.

“Just watch us go next season.” Bold. Confident. I like it. He goes onto say later that the injuries really played a huge part in the down to the wire struggle we all had to endure this term. We all knew that, there’s nothing that could be done about it. MGP knew that too.

“What can you do? You have to work hard with the players you have got and hopefully we can get everyone fit for next season.” Yeah Gamst, you tell em. “There will be more competition, players will be sharper, so it is almost like new signings without spending the money on them. I am looking forward to some more good times next time around.”

Here’s the most promising part though. ” “We were in the same situation when Sparky came in as manager. We were down at the bottom, he got us out of relegation and then we kicked on. I have got the same feeling now. We are going to have a pre-season together and get some ideas and get some players fit. I am looking forward to next season.”

Yeahhhh. Love it. Rovers comin’ out strong in the 09-10 season. Bring on the competition. And The Dingles.

First off, Thanks to everyone who has voted so far in the poll. I know I was gone for a week or two and to see so many people back reading the blog brings a tear to my eye. Just kidding (but not really…)

Some interesting facts/ideas/musings etc… that have spawn from the poll results and comments in the last post:

Tugay is the out and out favorite with 39% of the votes in the “Do you like the new white kit” poll. I don’t know what that says about the proposed shirt….or about my Turkish delight.

Richard from the U.S. writes

bloody hell, it looks like a bad Bolton home strip

And having done the research I have to admit, sadly, that it kind of does.

James from the U.S. is clearly not a fan of Umbro…..at all.

Regular contributor BMatthews is a giant 08 away kit fanboy, shamelessly at that. And hopes they even keep it next year.

I myself was never to fond of this year away kit, and I’m not quite sure what to make of that New away kit there, if it does turn out tomorrow to be accurate. I think it’s because I loved the red and black halved kit from 2 season ago.

To see all the fun you’re missing out on, as well as to comment on the new shirt and vote in the poll, click here to see all the fun you’re missing.

UP THE ROVERS! and screw the scum.

EDIT: I was going to link to the scum’s offside page. but only because they never used to have one. now, they have one now. So I’d like to congratulate them on getting their first house with internet access. And Congrats to The Offside, who’s influence is so strong they got the only online member of the scum’s fan base to write for them.

Now before you go off and mumble about the stupidity of that last sentence, how many of you knew that my name was also a link? Ah ha! That link will take you to a tiny little about me, which none of you probably will care about. What you might be interested in knowing though, is my contact information. Comments aren’t instant and if you comment me on the site, David or I might not get it for hours. Also, if you have any questions, comments or concerns that you don’t necessarily want to post publicly, AIM or email is great for that as well, and I’d love to hear it. Any way to get you more of what you want to see from a website about the team that you and I both love, we’ll make sure we get done.

Also, I tagged this in the lets all laugh at the Burnley category. Basically because I hate them. All. So lets go ahead, take a second out of our day, and have a good laugh at our 6 fingered friends playing in the Championship.

UP THE ROVERS!

It is jst a glorified work out and really not much more. However, I never enjoy losing but at least it was to a top teir side from Germany. For more on the loss to TSG 1899, just click.

In other news:
There has been speculation on numerous amounts of things, all touched on by David below. The last few days have been just trinkets of the same stories, re-hashed with nothing substantial added, so don’t think David and I have up and abandoned you. When there’s substantial developments you can be rest assured I will have something to say on the matter.

Last week The Dingles lost to a USL feeder team from North Carolina in a league about equivalent to England’s Conference. I’d link their Offside page more but it appears the Dingles:
•Lack Electricity
•Don’t know how to work them new founded CPU’s
&•Don’t have any fans.

A final and less hate filled note I just want to throw in. I know there are readers from across the globe who visit this site. Whether it be every so often or every time we update I just wanted to bring the attention of a quickly growing charity. Season Tickets for Charityis for supporters who would like to give more back to the club and community than just a kit purchase. Not only do they accept season tickets but donations of any and all amounts to help give and expose more and more people to BRFC. They continue to grow year by year and I just wanted to give them a shameless plug and shout.

Until next time(when we sell DB or get some work permits) Up the Rovers!

Bitter rivals who had had to wait 17 years for the big derby game and Rovers did not disappoint.

A goal in the dying moments of each half saw us take home a comfortable win, and the East Lancashire bragging rights. We cemented our dominance over the Dingles with a 5-0 victory in the return game at Ewood.

Enjoy…

It is a rivalry that not many of the less educated football fans know about.

It isn’t of the same ferocious nature as that of Celtic and Rangers by any means, but the hatred runs deep.

In the last few years it has become something of a novelty for Rovers to play against Burnley, the last time was in the FA Cup back in 2005. It wasn’t a good game, we drew 0-0 at Turf Moor and brought them back to Ewood where we won 2-1.

Before then we had only met twice in 22 years. Those being the league games of our First Division (now Championship) promotion season in 2000/01. We won 2-0 at Turf Moor and 5-0 at Ewood.

There was trouble at both games that season, the most amusing being after the away game in which Burnley fans, clever bunch that they are, went into Burnley town centre and caused havoc, much to the amusement of Rovers!

It isn’t the most high profile local rivalry by any means, but when they come around it’s always fun!

PS – We call them Dingles, on account of their inbreeding tendancies. They call us bastards, cos they’re original!
