Do we really need to spend any money?!
By: Dan Clough | July 13th, 2007Gone are the big spending days of Uncle Jack and in come the days of penny-pinching Rovers.
It all makes for a pretty dull summer, theres little football to watch and the only speculation on the horizon is over Benni McCarthy!

Having said that I am quite content with the way our squad looks. Two new signings for a combined fee of less than half a million and yet the team looks sound.
New boy Maceo Rigters joins McCarthy, Jason Roberts, Matt Derbyshire, Paul Gallacher and… Erm… What’s that other fella called again? Oh yes, Francis Jeffers.
We have the best goalkeeper in the Premiership, backed up by Jason Brown and new boy Gunnar Nielsen (assuming Enckelman is on his way).
One of the best signings for Rovers this season will be the five-year contact extension signed by skipper Ryan Nelsen. Easily the most underrated player in the league, with BIG Chris Samba and Andre Oijer coming back from his injury. Stephen Warnock could be pushing for an England call up and Brett Emerton filled Lucas Neill’s boots at right back last season quite admirably!
The only area I can see is central midfield where we could do with one more good player. Especially with Tugay nearing the end of his career. Although, Super Robbie Savage is back and looked comfortable at Wrexham on Tuesday night along with the comeback of Steven Reid who is letting set for a return in the near future. David Bentley should be a fully fledged England international by this time next year, there’s one season of Tugay left, Morten Gamst Pederson (la la la la la) and Sergio Peter competing for the left wing and David Dunn who really needs to prove a point next season.
Hughesy wants a striker, and having missed out on Bellamy (thank God) who knows who we are going to end up with. But in Hughes we have a manager who will not rush into things and start throwing money around, he bides his time and finds the right players to suit his needs.
