Losing Savage is a blow
By: Dan Clough | January 10th, 2008
Robbie Savage was a great servent of Blackburn Rovers. There aren’t many players in the current team that you could say will give 100% always.
Even if he wasn’t having the best of games, you always knew Savage was trying his best.
As well as on the pitch, he will be desperately missed off it. The Welshman was a huge personality in the dressing room and we can only hope we have enough personalities in the dressing room to cope with his departure.
At the end of the day, he’s gone and we have to accept that. Problem now is, who do we play in midfield?
Tugay is the obvious one. He’s one of our best players but there’s no way he could play ninety minutes of every game, he’s 38 (ish) and cannot cope with the speed of some matches. On top of this we have to face up to the reality that he will be retiring soon and we still need to find a replacement.
Dunny is a decent player. He runs around a lot but his distribution often lets him down and he is very greedy.
Reid is more of a winger and is still not fully fit.
That’s our options when you throw into the mix that Mokoena (who isn’t good enough to play for us anyway) is off to the African Nations.
Talk is that we are after Jason Koumas. To be honest I’m not sure how good he is. I know he was talked up as one of the up and coming stars of the future a few seasons back but that has all disappeared now as he became yet another promising star not to fulfill his true potential. There was also talk of a move for Tom Huddlestone of Spurs earlier in the season but he seems to be playing more often these days and would probably cost too much.
The fact of the matter remains, Savage must be replaced!
