Adios, Roque!
By: Jimmy | June 22nd, 2009
From the Offish Site:
Rovers can confirm that Roque Santa Cruz has this afternoon completed a transfer to Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.
Finally the end of the Roque saga and the beginning of the “Who the hell are we gonna buy with this loot / I can’t believe Man Citeh really paid that much for a broken striker” age can begin.
Very exciting. Happy Trails Roque!

Gomis (St. Ettiene): Speed, power, but I doubt we would be interested.
Michel Bastos (Lille): A fine winger to complement Pedersen.
André-Pierre Gignac(Toulouse): good scorer. Might be too expensive but I havent heard alot of talk about him.
Zigic (Valencia, but was on loan at Racing Santander): 6′8″, would be a dominating prescence, and would be better than an aging Davies.
Freddy Adu (Benifica): Could probaly get him on the cheap and I think he might be worth the risk.
Altidore? Ba (Hoffenheim)? Aquafresca (Inter)?
Maybe we could get Bentley back on the cheap?

Kevin Gameiro (Lorient): I really think he has potential, young, talented, and we could probally get him for a cheap

this was pretty much ordained when Sparky left. It doesn’t even really feel like news at this point. Also, nice list of players Quas, but I don’t think BFS is going to be creative with these funds. He’s going to spend next season making sure he’s got a squad that can finish mid-table, before he’ll start looking for more creativity…(though Bentley might not surprise me as a “value” signing)
Also, Jimmy, I sent you an email at the one in your profile – guessing you don’t use it regularly anymore, but if you can still access it, I was curious about something…

I am a big Gomis fan and after St. Ettiene had a terrible year, I think we could get him for a low price because of his teams struggles. Young, big/stong enough for the Premier League game, I think that he would be a value signing and replacement for Roque while still leaving money on the table for more signings, but your right, Sam will probaly take the safe route this year, although his record when he was here was great when you consider the injuries and the hole that Ince left… but I am still hoping
