Benni McCarthy – Just a big baby?

As Mark Hughes prepares for showdown talks with Benni after yet another paddy from the South African striker I can’t help but start thinking he’s a bit of a baby!
After being subbed in Saturday’s win over Newcastle (with the score at 1-1 and Rovers searching for a winner) he stormed down the tunnel and left the ground before the game had finished, leaving Sparky with no choice but to have a word about his behaviour.
It’s not the first time he’s gone all moody. At the beginning of the season Hughes left him out of his squad for a couple of games in order for him to get some more training after his poor form. The reason he had been playing so badly was his disappointment at not getting his dream move to Chelsea’s subs bench.
Roque Santa Cruz’s arrival doesn’t seem to have helped. The pair have not been overly prolific as a partnership and Benni could well be missing his old pal Jason Roberts after the two became good friends last season.
This most recent act though could be partly down to him being left out of the South Africa squad for the African Nations. Although this came as good news to Rovers fans, worried about losing our best striker for a month, he is obviously disappointed. He had been called back to the squad by the new coach but that has now been reversed and it would seem his international career could well be over.
With speculation mounting over his future I am worried that, come January, he may well be off!
