Mark Hughes signs 3 year deal with Manchester City
By: Jimmy | June 4th, 2008
From the Blackburn Rovers’ official site:
Blackburn Rovers today began the search for a new manager after Mark Hughes was appointed by Manchester City.
From the Man City official site:
Manchester City Football Club are today delighted to announce we have agreed terms with Mark Hughes to be our new Manager.
You can read all the higher-ups and their quotes on the sites for yourself if you’re really that interested but I’m just beside myself right now. I don’t know whether or not to be happy that we had a good manager to turn us around and lead us like he did and just wish him the best or if I should be bitter and angry that he just up and left after saying time and time again how happy he was here.
I know this is all a ploy to get th ManUre job in 3 years but is city really the place to show the Glazers he should get the job? A part of me can’t help just thinking that this is partly the players fault for not etting into Europe, I mean a manager can only do so much with out going out and playing himself, so some responsibility for the failure to get into at least Intertoto rests on the players. Maybe that’s the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Feel free to post you internal struggles or just how you’re feeling, we can get through this as a community. (Gosh, I’m making it sound as if someone just passed) Also, feel free to call me out if I am being too melodramatic, though I don’t think many people will disagree with my feelings here. I do think though, that this will take a little bit to truly sink in.

I cant help think that the board could have done more to prevent this. I think that if more money had been scrapped together in the past weeks then he may have stayed, but Hughes must have thought he could go no further with us.
Either the board need to start taking some risks or find some wealthy investors (not necessarily a takeover, but something like at Sunderland).
Nevertheless, thoughts must turn to the succession. My (as usual optimistic) picks are, in order:
-Slaven Bilic
-Paul Ince
-Alan Shearer (would be very exciting)
-Steve Coppell
-Roberto Martinez
-Tugay………. (even him before Sam Allardyce!!!)

I’m a United supporter, and hope that Hughes will manage here in the future (I’m stunned at his choice of Man City); nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed watching the Rovers under Hughes, and can only offer my sympathy at what is a big loss for your club. I hope Blackburn can rebound and continue to grow.

am completely shell-shocked and bit narked at hughes who has shown his mercenary side by turning down our paltry 50k per week for the 3mil a year offered by the so-called big club that hasn’t finished above us in the league for years. just really really hope fat sam doesn’t get the job and we find someone who will keep our best players at the club.

I’ve always been a little bit of a Rovers fan (they would have to be my fave team in the EPL), mainly because Brett Emerton is jesus reincarnated. It’s really a shame to see Hughes go. You guys played some fantastic football under him. I just hope you can find a good replacement.

To address in order:
David- Steve Coppell is the name on the top of my list.Jak- I’m sure he think this step will help bring him them when Fergie goes within the next 3 years but I am not too sure how United feel about him a City now.
Martin- That’s too true. City are one step behind Newcastle in the big club syndrome and we’ve done better than them consistently. The only two people that have been mentioned that I am very opposed to are Big Fat Sam and Shearer.
Jake- cheers for the kind words. Any support is always good support in my book.
