Rovers news - You couldn’t make it up.
By: David | March 27th, 2008International football is a strange thing, with teammates finding themselves against each other. It became stranger last night with Aaron “Axe” Mokoena managing to injure Rovers teamate Roque Santa Cruz, our best striker. Hopefully Roque will only miss this weekend’s match against Reading, but that should hopefully give Jason Roberts an assured starting place after an impressive performance last week.
Johann Vogel should make his debut too.
I’m not totally confident about this fixture. Reading are strong at home and on the up. They have a lively offense too and our own defence has stuttered in recent months. Maybe Chris Samba’s suspension will be a wake-up call so he can start performing like he was at the beginning of the season. That being said their defence is weak and our strikers are in good form - McCarthy, Derbyshire and Roberts have all scored recently. Pedersen is beginning to find a bit of form and we all know about Bentley, who is fast becoming a talisman - like Fabregas at Arsenal, Villa at Valencia, Benzema at Lyon or Ronaldo at Man Utd, he is someone who is head and shoulders above his teamates and is the source of everything special and creative about the team.
If he does move in the summer I hope it’s to Liverpool or abroad - he wouldn’t get in the team at Man Utd, he would be selling out going to Chelsea and he’s not going to Arsenal is he? Any other “big” English club would be a waste of his talent - he might as well stay at Rovers. And if he does move he may prove himself to be world class, like the aforementioned players, which would be fantastic. The worst thing would be for him to move to a big club and not fit in or not get a game - then we would all beg for him to return to Rovers. If he does move, he must shine wherever he goes.
