The Long Summer and Its Speculations

By: Jimmy | June 30th, 2008

ewood 1 Well now that the manager drama has come, gone, and is now progressing into our memories, we can focus on all of the new and exciting things happening at Ewood Park.

Oh wait….
….there’s nothing.

Well, nothing solid I should say. There’s always the tabloids who claim that our best players will be leaving the club for next to no money, because why would Rovers ever have a player worthy of a high transfer fee. We only have one of the best wingers in the Premiership and one of the highest scoring strikers of the last term. Both of who are already sold to Spurs and linked to Le Arse. All said and done though, that’s the same with our best players every summer, but I still get annoyed with it.

There hasn’t been much transfer gossip about who we will be trying to bring in, but it is reported that Chelsea’s backup keeper Carlo Cudicini is set to be Ince’s first signing. Dumb. Why would we sign someone just as old as Big Brad? I don’t get it. Either way, there hasn’t been anything solid yet on the incoming front and it has to be said that the manager hasn’t even met all of the team yet, so expect any of our moves to till the latter stages of the summer period.

The one positive thing(if you can call it that) is a possible new potential buyer for the club. It was reported in The People on Sunday that businessman Nabeel Chowdery was interested in looking into buying the club. He was quoted as saying that the club was worth about £40million; and while though I don’t know what that really means in actual terms of worth, I know it falls short of the £50 million minimum that it was reported the trustees were looking for.

The new kits will be out soon too hopefully, and we’ll have more to report on and discuss. Until then, use this to comment on stories we may have missed and Up the Rovers!

What a great day! I just went over to football365 and was gonna paste that Cudicini rumor under the last comments and see what people thought. I love Fridel! I think he is my favorite Rover (being an American keeper myself…no favoritism there), this would really REALLY hurt.

This transfer window can’t close soon enough, I want to invest in the new home kit (Crown Paints over Bet24…sure why not) but don’t want to snag that Roque shirt and find out he’ll be riding the pine at some “big” club. The lime-green Fridel number 1 never interested me (but if they could make the keeper shirt half as nice-looking as Barca’s new one I would buy 3 of them).

ALSO! Who are we going to sign while the window is open?! Have to be thinking D maybe a decent distributing center mid? Thoughts?

phew, this is what happens when I can’t read posts for a week and the job is UNBEARABLE

Hah, I love the enthusiasm. Great post.

One of the worst things in the world is when you get a number and name on a kit and the player leaves in that window. My advice: wait until after the winter window closes. ;-)

I think Big Brad is one of the best in the Prem between the sticks and would be gutted to see some other gentleman, who’s just as old basically, taking his place. Until age shows its taking a toll then we’ll talk, but the man is immense.

I’m not sure who this ‘D’ is you’re referencing, bit I agree we do need another mid. And someone to bolster the defense. Striking can never hurt to improve but if we hope Benni just had a sophomore slump and RSC doesn’t get one, with the way Roberts ended the term and Derbs I can’t say we’re in poor shape there.

Haha by D I meant a Defender… I busted that post out quickly, sorry for the confusion. Agreed! I love the strength we have up front plenty of power and skill, we need a tough CB who can control the best players in the world (a tall order to be sure) but thats what we need to be a top side.

With you, Bmatthews and Jim, on all you said. The rumors are driving me crazy! I did not take that stuff too seriously until Hughes flew the coop. I thought that was all talk and could not have been more wrong! I bought a shirt with Bentley last season. Let’s hope it is still good. Like you B I have my eyes on a Roque shirt this year but will hold off. By the way, where do you get your stuff? I’ve not seen a keeper shirt for Rovers offered at the on-line store I’ve been using, and would not mind getting one if I knew where

Mike, I too doubted the initial rumors about MH leaving, but like you said, I guess they showed us.

The new Rovers online shop is set to be open in a few weeks and if the information I’ve heard is any sort of accurate then it will be a lot more easy to access and navigate; as well as have a larger selection of Rovers memorabilia. I’ll be posting something on it when it opens, as well as when the new kits come out. I always try to order from the official online store so all the money goes to the club, but thats just me. :-)
