The Weekend Can’t Come Soon Enough: Spuds Preview

By: Jimmy | March 10th, 2010

tumbleweed-road-mdI don’t know about everyone else, but when Rovers don’t play on the weekend, I feel awful. Then, by midweek, I feel like an addict without his last fix. (Well maybe not that drastic, but you know what I mean.) I feel something missing and lacking, and Saturday can’t come soon enough.

Rovers play Spuds this Saturday, away at WHL. Tottenham are 15 points above us and are having an extremely successful campaign. Sitting in fourth, only a mere 12 points behind third, Spuds are certainly looking forward to playing somewhere in Europe next year. So lets see what we’re up against, shall we?

Roman Pavlyuchenko: The guy has scored 5 goals in Spuds last 5 games, and one of those games I think he was on the bench for. Our back line has to be solid in order to prevent him from getting in some chances on Paul Robinson.

Spuds Recent Form: They’re doing well. Real well. According to this nifty little form guide the PL does, Spuds sit 6th in the Form League table, and in their last six have gone: W D D L W W. They’ve also not lost in their last 6 home games.

    What we need to do:

Get some points on the road: In our last 6 away games, we’ve taken 2 points. Two. Dos. That’s horrifying away form. We need to find a way to pick up the scoring and force Spuds to play our game. It’s too the point where I’ll be satisfied with a draw.

Score goals: This has been thee single biggest complaint of mine all season. We have no out and out goal scorer. We have only 5 goals in our last 5 games, but 3 of them came in that demolition of Bolton.

Hopefully we’ll be able to get a clutch first half goal, tack a few on in the second half and take all three points. Realistically? This will be a tight one, with a 2-1 or 2-2 scoreline. Hopefully in our favor.

UP THE ROVERS!

Sorry I couldn’t help you out, but I realized I’m better at reacting to stories than I am at actually writing them in the first place…(outside of random drunken outbursts)…
