Welcome, Mr. Di Santo!
By: Jimmy | August 3rd, 2009
Well, it’s official! We have signed Chelsea starlet Franco Di Santo on a loan deal till the January window, with first option to re up the loan till the end of the season if Chelsea doesn’t recall him. The 6 foot 4 inch striker is only 20 years old and made 25 appearances for the Argentinian U20 team. He made 9 appearances with Chelsea’s first team in 2008. So what’s this mean for our Rovers….?
It means we now have 4 quality strikers on the books with Di Santo, Benni, Jason Roberts, and Dioufy. With Gally probably going to be sold but Nikola Kalinic a possible singing it means our striking woes are gone for the start of this season.
We haven’t even dropped near half of the RSC sale, and we have all this money to spend of Kalinic and another midfielder. So this gives us this week and next to bolster and strengthen our starting squad in the middle of the park. Exciting times, and things are looking promising.
We do need these reinforecemnts though, as N’zonzi and van Heerden will probably need ressie time before even being considered for the starting XI. A new, quality midfielder who will walk right into the team and start is still pretty necessary in my opinion. However, with this striker situation having been resolved, things are looking up for the start of this term. As always, UP THE ROVERS!

Good news, seems like I’ll be watching a few Rovers games this season then :> Hope that he does well in the first team!

Enjoy him. As a Chelsea fan, I’ll have another team to watch occasionally.

Kalinic is reportedly a done deal as well. I love these pickups, and the quotes I’ve seen from BFS about the squad. Would rather Diouf was gone, as I think he’s generally a negative on the whole, and I find Gallagher to be interesting for potential. The quotes I’ve seen indicate that BFS knows he’s got the experienced backbone of a squad to stay in the EPL next year, and now he’s looking for youth to challenge the older players for spots, and keep them from getting complacent. Excellent big-picture move (IMHO) by BFS.
Hell, some of the player quotes make it sound like N’zonzi is a possible play to hold in reserve for the 2nd half of the season…then again, that’s why they’re players, and not managers…

Things are looking up for Blackburn. A signing or two more (midfield!) and we’ll be fielding a very good squad.

Great comment jjf3, I do disagree a little on one thing though, Diouf. I think people can change and he hasn’t done anything wrong in the Blue and White yet, a team chemistry is through the roof. I think he’s a great asset to have.
Everything else, couldn’t agree more. We’ve lost a few old guys and have only brought in young, promising talent, a great move long term. I wouldn’t be shocked to see N’zonzi in the first team later on this term either, the kids gonna be big. As usuall, agree with ya on a lot of what you’re saying.

Steve Moss, we do need that last midfielder! Then we’ll be back shooting top 8, IMO

“A little on the small side”
Disagree with ya here ish. He’s young, maybe not a lot of bulk but 6′4″ is never small. The lad is lightning too, very exciting player.
